PIT KITS is a free, outdoor, family friendly event at The Pit that provides an opportunity for the community to spend meaningful time together assembling hygiene kits for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Kit packing will be organized by Devon Oder, Emily Marchand, Caitlyn Montgomery, Viet-Nu Nguyen, and Celeste Voce, who have been working together for years to find creative ways to energize their communities into supporting unhoused Angelenos in need of resources.

The cost of each kit is $20. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to purchase enough toiletries for 500 kits to be distributed across multiple non-profits in Los Angeles, including Brown Bag Lady , Downtown Women’s Center , and SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition . We believe that every human deserves to be treated with dignity and care.

Investing $20 in each kit allows us to select quality ingredients and show our respect for people in our community. Donors can sponsor one kit for $20, or as many kits as they would like! A little goes a long way!

Admission to this event is free, but we ask that you please sign up to volunteer, so we know how many people to expect! A sign up sheet for one hour shifts between 8am-2pm will go live 6/20/24. This event will be held outside in the parking lot of The Pit, so please come prepared to be in direct sun and on your feet. We suggest wearing sunscreen, comfortable clothing and a hat. And don’t forget your water bottle!

What are hygiene kits?

Hygiene Kits are personal toiletry items for health and wellbeing. Our hygiene kits will include items such as: shampoo, conditioner, soap/body wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand lotion, socks, deodorant, lip balm, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, face masks, comb, nail clippers, hand towels, first aid kit, Q-tips, underwear, tampons, and pads.

Why are you accepting monetary donations instead of items?

We are artists, advocates and small organizations who are concerned about our carbon footprint. Receiving your generous donation makes it easier for us to buy in bulk to reduce waste. To ensure transparency with the funds, we will be collecting donations via a GoFundMe fundraiser. Alternatively, if you or someone you know can donate 250-500 of one item listed on our list, please contact us at emilyjmar@gmail.com We will be happy to assist you with this donation.

Our family would like to donate items. What do you suggest?

On the day of the event, we would be happy to accept these new and unopened items in all sizes: feminine hygiene products (pads and tampons), socks, men’s and women’s underwear, as well as tents and sleeping bags.

We look forward to spending the day with you! Thank you for your time and contributions!
