The Pit Presents hosts galleries from other cities in a series of residencies and swaps. The initiative offers galleries an affordable temporary space in The Pit’s growing compound. The exhibitions coincide with The Pit’s exhibition schedule. The goal of The Pit Presents is to give galleries from other cities exposure in Los Angeles and to build community with artists and galleries beyond our region. In tandem with The Pit’s annual exhibition schedule, The Pit Presents’ year of programing will constitute four residencies and two swaps. The residency offers participating galleries a 467 square foot exhibition space and an online presence in a section of The Pit’s website devoted to The Pit Presents. In the event of a swap, invited galleries will bring exhibitions to The Pit Presents and in return will open their space to The Pit for an exhibition.

As a small, artist-run gallery, The Pit relies on its art community. Our fellow artists are at the heart of everything we do, and our programs, projects, and events are aimed at supporting and building that community. We actively seek out ways to collaborate with other galleries to grow our respective communities beyond our local boundaries. We believe this kind of collaboration has the potential to help galleries and artists expand our reach in a sustainable, fun way that empowers independent small businesses through mutual benefit.

The Pit Presents kicked off programming in November, 2018 with a swap with New York-based gallery Step Sister, the project space at Brennan & Griffin. The 2019 Pit Presents calendar includes Lyles & King (NY), Lévy.Delval (Brussels), Left Field (Los Osos, CA), and Adams and Ollman (Portland).
